This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centered support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgment in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centered support.

Learning includes training in a classroom and learning at home.
• 20 hours face-to-face training and assessment weekly at 176 Wellington St, Perth 6004
• 10 hours self-study weekly
• 120 hours in the work based training only. Work based training is week 10 of each study period. Students will need to take public transport to reach these facilities.


Admission Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Completion of Year 9 or equivalent
  • IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent.
  • A National Police Clearance from Australia is required prior to the commencement of work placement
  • A Medical Clearance may also be required prior to the commencement of the work placement

GCA trainer will directly monitor and train GCA students to attain knowledge and training within the unit.
Students enrolling in this course with are typically those desiring to gain skills and knowledge in Community services and possibly gain employment within the community services industry.
